    NAS Boxes

I am thinking about purchasing a NAS box, thus far I can contribute 2 X 750 Seagate drives which have never been used.
I am divided between the D-Link DNS 343 (A$599) and the QNAP TS-409 Pro (A$710) the QNAP seems to offer more, in that it has a 500MHz Marvell 5281 processor and 256MByte of SDRAM, it does not have an e-SATA port, but I do not have that requirement and also have one on one of my systems. My thoughts to purchase another 2 X 750 Drives and setup the system with RAID 1 (Image).
The other one that looks useful is the Repotec RP-NA2340 (A$400)
I am looking for experience (good or bad) together with suggestions.

    Ed,
Except for the names Seagate and D-Link, I don't recognize any of the other items you mention. Are they local or am I just being too regional?

    NAS?
    QNAP?
    Mavell?
    Repotec?

    Sorry.
    BOB

    Re: NAS Boxes

    Now you worry me!
All of them are listed in America, NAS is the acronym for "Network Attached Storage"
    A quick search revealed http://www.pcmag.com/category2/0,2806,677853,00.asp
There is a review at http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,1987966,00.asp
I am lost in what to select.

I didn't attempt any search of those items. It was just that there were no "bells ringing" with your use of the acronyms in your post.
Assuming that "everyone" knows what they mean, is often taking too much for granted these days. TMCAISTI!

    Re: NAS Boxes

I give up, what is TMCAISTI? (You have got me there)
Again I am right off topic and amazed that nobody has responded, in this land downunder it is all the rage. What I believe to be our best mag, Australian PC User reviews three categories "Single drive storage", "Two drive storage" and "Four/five drive RAID storage". The variations are broad and great. Every techo has a different opinion. e.g. One of the main differences is Embedded BitTorrent client.

I first thought Bob was referring to TMSAISTI , but the C doesn't fit.

I will have to wait for Bob, there is another post at Post 643611
It does not go into a lot of detail.
