    Very odd: japanese characters (2003)

    Hi,

Expert entering panic stage real soon....

    <img src=/S/woops.gif border=0 alt=woops width=58 height=36> <img src=/S/drop.gif border=0 alt=drop width=23 height=23> <img src=/S/igiveup.gif border=0 alt=igiveup width=31 height=23>

This one has me stumped completely.
I have a report causing havoc: it shows japanese characters where it should show a number

The form is based on a query, which shows the same characters for that particular field too.

I have this query tied to a form (for criteria). One of the fields of the query reads:

    Rente: [forms]![frmInterestParams]![tbxRente]

If I open the form and then the query, the query result shows the attached picture.

If I close the form and run the query of course I get prompted for that form field. I enter the same number as the form showed (0.09) and the query result properly shows 0.09 for "Rente".

I've tried everything I could think of:

    - change number formats of query field, form field, table field (the form pulls the "rente" from a table)
    - change font on the report that uses the query
    - repair the system database
    - repair the backend database
    - export form to a new database, remove it and import the form back from the copy
    - repair database again
    - lord knows what else

    No results.

    Any idea's?

Lots of links about corrupt databases: Corrupt Microsoft Access MDBs FAQ.

If you wish, you can atach a stripped down and zipped copy of the database (remove everything that isn't relevant to the problem).

    Here is the database.

First, try to open the query.
    Fill in:

    tbxRente:0.09
    cmbCustomer:*
    tbxPayDate:9-12-2008

The first field shows 0.09, like it should.

Next, open the form, fill in the same information and press OK, then open the query again.

I get the Japanese characters even if the form is open.
You can correct this by using a dummy calculation, e.g.

    Rente: [forms]![frmInterestParams]![tbxRente]*1

You should NOT get the japanese if the form in unloaded.

Thanks for the resolution. Very, very strange though.
