Redirect Firefox to read diff. bookmarks (Firefox 3.0.4)

Am wondering if it would be possible to read a different set of bookmarks than the ones it currently reads?

    Thanks,
    Brad

I think you can only work with one set of bookmarks at a time.

You could export/import on your Firefox bookmarks, and thereby use different sets, but I worry about corruption or, at the least, confusion, if you were to do that regularly. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

There is an extension that will allow Firefox to use your IE Favorites, so in that sense you can have two sets simultaneously.

There were some bookmark manager extensions for Firefox 2, but due to the redesign in Firefox 3, there probably are only a few (if any) that have been updated.

If you want to operate two independent installations of Firefox 3 (not simultaneously), you can create a second profile. Each profile will have its own bookmarks, extensions, and other settings. If you're interested, this article describes how to invoke the Profile Manager to create a new profile: Managing profiles.

This is not really the flavor of the question you asked, but possibly in conjunction with Jefferson's advice, it might give you some thoughts. I run both Firefox and Thunderbird in my dual boot setup of XP and Vista, using the same profile for both. So, whether I'm in XP or Vista, my browser and email are using a "master" profile. Take a read of <post:=709,925>post 709,925</post:> and you may be able to combine that technique with what Jefferson said about a new profile.

I've been running this way since May 2008 and haven't had any problem with Firefox or Thunderbird, through several versions.

Not quite what you are asking for but another way I have created a list of bookmarks for easy access follows:

    Open Firefox
    Click on Bookmarks/organize bookmarks
    Click on Import and Backup
Then and select Export HTML <pic below>
Choose a name and a place to save your file!

Then back on main page of Firefox do a File/"open file" and view a page of bookmarks!
Then you can make this your "start page":
    Open Tools/options/Main
    Click on Use Current Page

or you could save a shortcut to your Bookmark Toolbar for easy access:
    Bookmark this page
    Name it
    Select folder: Bookmark Toolbar
    Click Done

I have already worked with my saved bookmark file in MS Frontpage if I wanted to edit or add to it.
    Hope this helps.

    Hey all,
Took a little break. Thanks for all the input. Will give them a try!

    Thanks,
