    Inserting music (PowerPoint 2003)

When I created a PowerPoint presentation about a year ago, I inserted a song into it. Now, whenever I open it, the song does not play. Luckily, I uploaded the presentation to the internet and upon downloading it last week and playing it, the song did play correctly. However, I recently moved the presentation to another folder and the song is no longer playing.

Is this due to the fact that I moved the file? When a PowerPoint presentation is created in a folder with a song inserted, is there a code that becomes invalid when the presentation is moved to another folder? If not, is there any other explanation as to why I keep on losing the song?

Also, on another, somewhat related note, I have created another PowerPoint and inserted sound, and wasn’t able to get the slide progression to progress beyond the first slide. I believe that what is happening is that the second slide is set to appear after the 4 minute song is done playing. But I want it to start after the last image in the previous slide fades away.

I was able to figure out how to get an image in the first slide to fade away without having to wait for the song to finish: I went into the advanced timeline and dragged the setting for the image’s exit over to the left. But I can’t get the images in the second slide to transition in immediately after the image in the first slide fades away. I have it set to “Start With Previous,” but it nonetheless waits for the song to end.

    Any ideas?

    Regards,

    JMT

Based on threads I have read here... If you use an embeddable format, such as WAV, then the PPT should be quite portable. If you used a file that can only be linked, such as an MP3, then the PPT needs to retain its folder-location relationship with the external sound file (i.e., you need to move them together).

Regarding the timing issue, I think people have set up shows where the music plays continuously through the show. So it must be possible. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15> But I don't personally know how they did it. A search here relating to background music might find something relevant.

I know it's possible, because it is how I had my former PPT configured. Hopefully, someone can figure out why it doesn't progress automatically, even though I have "Start with Previous" selected.

    Re: Inserting music (PowerPoint 2003)

I actually already have the music set to stop playing after 999 slides, but the show nonetheless gets stuck on the 3rd slide and doesn’t progress to the fourth.

I just realized, though, that the problem is not due to the music. Whether or not I have the music inserted, the slide show gets stuck on slide 3 and I need to click to progress to slide 4. I don’t understand why this is the case, since I have the first image of slide 4 set to Start With Previous.

I thought that perhaps the problem was related to the slide 4, and so I tried deleting it, but that didn’t work either, because I still had to click to progress past slide 3. I presume then that the problem is with slide 3?

Sorry if this is insulting the intelligence but...

.. the slide is set to auto transition???

Assuming it is what is on that slide?

Dear John, it dosn't insult my intelligence. In fact, I don't even know how to check if it is set to auto transition. Where is that setting located?

The slide that doesn't want to transition has a photo and text, both of which fade in and then fade out.

    Slide Show > Slide transition

In the pane that opens look for Auto transition and tick the box

    Dear John,

Is this what you are referring to? As you can see, “Automatically” is checked under “Advance slide.”

I didn’t change any of the settings, and now the PPT is working normally as it should. I have no idea why.
