Virus-Mal_Hifrm

I have contacted a virus that Trend Micro Internet Security Pro tells me it can not erase, but puts it in quartineen. The virus is identified by Trend Micro as Mal_Hifrm. The warning flag from Trend Micro comes up occasionally telling me it has quartineed it.....How can I get rid of it permantly without reformatting my hard drive and starting over. Also of great concern to me is whether I am passing it on to others even if it is quartineed by Micro Trend and Finally, is it a virus that will take information from my computer if I put say my credit card, etc over the internet to do an order, etc......Any help is greatly appreciated as rend Micro's website isn't much help....thanks, John

According to Trend Micro - Quarantined Files:

Trend Micro products can be configured by a user or set by a network administrator to "quarantine" a file for possible later inspection.
Files tagged for quarantine are encrypted and moved to a protected folder, preventing them from further executing and causing any more harm to the user's system.
Each product has a Quarantine Manager where users can then permanently delete or restore files from quarantine.
Upon inspection of the stored files, an exception list (whitelist) option is also provided to avoid possible false positive detection.

    Does that help?

    Re: Virus-Mal_Hifrm

Lief, thank you.....However, I would like to get to the bottom of what the file is and permantly delete if from my system so that it is gone forever unless I mess up and do the same erronious thing again.....do you know any way or where I might discover how to get it off completely? I have deleted it before, but it comes back frequently and I am not doing anything unual with my computer. I have also noted that I now have to reboot my DSL connection every morning before I can log on to the internet. Any guidance is greatly appreciated. thank you, John

I don't have or use Trend Micro so can't give you instructions, but according to what I see, it is possible to delete the quarantined file. What does your Help file say?

Are your anti-virus definitions up to date? I would guess it is coming back because you have an infected email you are repeatedly opening, or perhaps something is accessing your computer.
    Are you running any firewall?

Your DSL connection may or may not be associated with this. I'd wait and see if anyone else has anything to add....

Thank you to everyone who has offered some assitance....Yes my my internet security is up to day....Leif, you may have hit the nail on the head as there are a couple of emails from the same person that I have referred to as they have technical informtion and also there were some attachments. Possibly this is where I picked up the problem. I know of a way to check out the DSL in the morning as it's always having to reboot it first thing in the morning....I will followup on all suggestions....If there are others who have suggestions also, please let me know....thanks you all, it's greatly appreciated.....John

If you read the Overview tab of the page Doc Watson linked, it says:

This is the Trend Micro heuristic detection for suspicious files that manifest similar behavior and characteristics as the following malware:

HTML_IFRAME

VBS_PSYME

JS_AGENT[/list]

"Heuristic" detection means the file looks or smells suspicious based on previously known malware, but is not itself currently known to be malware. So you might not be able to get a quick read on exactly what it is.
