    external Hdd enclosure jumper settings?

I've decided I've accumulated to much valuable work to rely on cd,dvd, for back up so have today bought a cheapo External Hdd enclosure to use with old but perfectly good IDE (PATA?) 40gb HDD. The documentation is limited and translated from Chinese/Korean. Before connecting anything to my computer I would like some guidance on jumper settings for the HDD, I think they should be set to "master no slave"? or is it slave? or cable select? Seems to be lots of confusion when I google for info so anyone who has done this can point me right. Thanks.

There is a good tutorial with pictures of the process here.

Good find, Doc. I've thought of doing this with some spare drives but wasn't too sure how to proceed.

    Thanks,
    Regards,

If I were betting, I'd say to jumper the drive as Master, plug it in and see what happens. I don't think it will "hurt" anything if your guess is wrong. I recently bought one of these ( Aluratek AHDU350 USB 2.0 Hard Drive Enclosure ) for someone and test installed it on my machine with the IDE drive jumpered as Master and XP's USB recognized it immediately.

Yep. Just set the jumper to Master plugged in and away...works a treat.
