    Template (Excel 2000 SP-3)

When trying to click on a template to fill out I get the error message attached. I have changed the security settings, ran an Office repair, and still get the same error message. I am clicking on the template to use from the help file since it is the only way I know how to get to the correct template to try to do an Amortization. How can I fix this OUACTRL.OCX error?

    Thanks

Try Help | Detect and Repair, or repair your Office installation from the Add or Remove Programs control panel.

I was working for a company a couple years ago and they had a similar problem. Check with Microsoft. They updated that file and removed some functionality that could be exploited. Also make sure that the template you want to use is safe and you know the author.

Thanks but the template, as far as I know, is from MS. It must be a part of Excel since I have never gotten anything from anywhere else.

That control was disabled as it has security problems. There is a way round it suggested here but obviously you would use it at your own risk!
Added: MSKB article about the issue.

    Thank you very much.

Let me ask a follow up question. Am I mistaken in my thinking that when I clicked on the template in the Help file that the template was coming from Microsoft and/or from the original installation discs?

    Thanks

What do you mean by "when I clicked on the template in the Help file"?

Whether the template came from Microsoft or not, it apparently used an external component (an ActiveX control) that has been disabled by Microsoft for security reasons.

    Re: Template (Excel 2000 SP-3)

I was in the Help file searching for Amortization and choose the option of "fill out an on screen form." Once I chose that another help screen came up and to go further I had to click on a hyperlink called "Template" That brought up the original error message I posted when starting this thread. I was assuming this meant it was a template from MS and would be a safe one to use if I could get Ouactrl.ocx file working again. The template is worthless and I can not run an amortization table without it apparently. So again instead MS making a repair necessary to properly fix a problem they just disable a control that is apparently needed in certain situations like this one.

You could check Templates - Microsoft Office Online to see if Microsoft has a more recent version.

Thank you. I'll look into that too.
