Lounge changes - help is on the way!
Those of you who have registered email addresses (at least, ones that work) should receive an announcement in the mail shortly. If your Junk mail filter gobbles the message, here's the gist of it.
There are some important changes coming to the Lounge:
1. We're moving to a new server
Our new server should make things faster, and we're getting some help with a redesign, too. The look of The Lounge on the new server will initially be exactly the same as on the old server. But after the move, we hope to improve The Lounge's usability as soon as possible in early 2009.
2. The Lounge will be read-only for a few hours
We plan to move everything from one server to the other during a period of several hours, some time between January 1 and 4, 2009. All existing threads on Woody's Lounge will be viewable during this period, but you won't be able to post a new message. We'll keep the transition as short as we can.
3. What to do if you changed your Hosts file
During our last move, you may have added www.wopr.com to your Hosts file. (The "Hosts." file is a text file that has no filename extension. Entries in the Hosts file bypass your browser's normal lookup process for a particular domain name. Wikipedia has a good overview of the care and feeding of the Hosts file.)
If you didn't change your Hosts file during our last move, you don't need to do anything. Your browser will automatically find the new server within minutes after our changes are done.
If you did make manual entries in your Hosts file back then, open the file in Notepad or any plain-text editor, delete any lines that include wopr.com, and save the file (making sure the editor does not add a ".txt" extension).
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, write to me!
Thanks for your support of the Lounge and your patience, especially if you happen to try to post a message during the exact hour we're in transition. We think the new server will be an improvement for all concerned.
