    HP2600N extending cartridge life

Anyone younger than 50 might enjoy reading the entire thread at http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/forums/laser/36633

For the over-50s I found this bit fascinating:

    1. No need for a hacker to get around the print counter.
Page 94 of the User Guide has the following instructions for those who would like to use the toner beyond their replacement time:
    Configuration
Cartridge Out Override can only be enabled from the printerís control panel menu.
    1. From the main menu, press (RIGHT ARROW) to System setup and press (SELECT).
    2. Press (RIGHT ARROW) to Print quality and press (SELECT).
    3. Press (RIGHT ARROW) to Replace supplies and press (SELECT).
    4. Press (RIGHT ARROW) to Override out and press (SELECT).
    5. Press (SELECT).
If Stop at out is selected, the printer will stop printing when a cartridge reaches the
recommended replacement point. If Override out is selected, the printer will continue
printing when a cartridge reaches the recommended replacement point. The factory default
    setting is Stop at out.

It strikes me that there may be related settings on other color laser printers.

    OK I'll ask ....

What's age got to do with it?

being on the cusp of both of your age groups, I didn't know whether to read the whole thread ... <img src=/S/help.gif border=0 alt=help width=23 height=15>

    "Cusp" my fat foot!

The thread is exceeding long. And then just as you think you're getting to the end, "John Galt" chimes in with a few good and very readable but multi-page essays.
All the way through one must read and appreciate Moe's subtle comments.
I was 62 when I started reading it!
Very few people over the age of 50 will still be alive when they get to the end of the current thread.

The first post is on 3/2/06
The latest, but not necessarily the last, post is on 12/5/08
I was thinking of printing the entire thread but ....
