Re: Personal Folders location (2007)

When I go to "Personal Folders/Properties/Advanced" the location for my "outlook.pst" file has an address that belongs to Win XP and not the actual location since I'm using Vista Ultimate. As you can see from the screenshot below, the displayed location is: Cocuments and SettingsJeffLocal SettingsApplication DataMicrosoftOutlookoutlook.pst.

It should be: C:UsersJeffAppDataLocalMicrosoftOutlookoutlook.pst. I've tried to enter the correct address but that field is not editable.

1. Is it necessary to change the address to point to the correct location?
2. Can the address be changed to point to the correct location? IF so, How?

If Outlook works OK, I'd leave it as it is.

It has to be the actual location, if you can access the file. You can move the file and edit your profile settings, but this can cause things to break, so unless you have a problem with security (seems not if you can access your mail), you would minimize headaches by not moving the file.

There is no such location in Vista. The "documents and settings" designation has been totally eliminated in Vista; it's a location that only exists in previous versions of Windows.

Everything appears to work fine nonetheless. How? But I'll leave things alone.

Thanks for both responses.

No, you are in error. There is a "Document and Settings" folder but it is hidden, and is a system folder. It is there for the pre-Vista programs that by default need it.
The user and LOCAL Admins are to leave it alone and stay out of it. It has "Machine" access and the System will access it as needed and redirect the need programs to the "User" area.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

My apologies! I acknowledge my error! I stand corrected! I defer to your more expansive knowledge.
