template file location (office 2000 sr1)

I've modified the path for my "User Template Location" to a drive (& folder) on our network. is there a .ini, or a .cfg file that "holds" this info, so I can distribute to entire company, so that all users are able to "see" same templates?
    and if so...
is there a way to "push" these settings out to the users??

    thanx!

Each machine and user account must be set in the "Files Location" option of Office. This information is stored in the 'Local' copy of Normal.dot, and each user account will have their own.

thanks for the reply ! from this information I should be able to copy my normal.dot to a place on the server , & then copy said dot to local machines - therefor enabeling the users to "see" the new path !

    I'll try this!

    thank you

But this will wipe out ALL their personal settings and they will be very angry with you, at least I would. Just send (give) them all instructions on the new locations and let them do it. If they do not know how, it is about time they learn.
Before "Retirement" I was the local area (group) PC support in a large Company. We supported the IS department to handle most of the local problems so they could work on the Network problems. We found that by forcing the users to make their own settings, we did not need to go and redo them on each upgrade. I worked for a 100,000 local employee company, and the company is in many other countries. these machines would be upgrade a lot between the hardware, new Office, new OS's and Network. This does make life a lot easier.

Thanks again for the reply - we've had office 2000 installed for only a couple of weeks, & I was chosen to figure out how to get a standard directory structure working with a "template library" so that we're all using the same templates (residing on the server)...Im sure that no-one has messed with the settings (other than me) - BUT I crertinly see what you mean about overwriting someones settings.....BAD.

I like the Idea of having the users adjust there own settings!! I should be able to handle this with an email for most users

    Thanks again!

As an alternative, you could have them change their Workgroup template settings to a network folder. This way, if they create their own user templates, they won't end up jumbled with company-wide templates.
