Tabbing In Table With A Protected Form (2003)

I created a document with two (2) tables and a form within this document. I had to elimnate one (1) of the tables, due file size restrictions for posting. I protected the form to give users access to the contents of the dropdown and to display the dropdwon arrow. After I run a macro to insert an additional page (document), the form works perfectly, but when I skip down to either table and tab ('Tab' key), it jumps back to the protected form section. I selected only the section that pertains to the form for protection. The document is attached. Thanks ! ! !

    Welcome to Woody's Lounge!

I can't execute the macro in your document because it looks for a file that isn't available on my PC, but when I protect the document for forms it appears to behave correctly. Where exactly in the document are you having problems with the Tab key?

Hans, Thanks for responding . . . create a folder with the name 'Monthly Reports' on the 'C:' drive and a 'rtf. file with the name of 'Administrator's Items Report For November 2008.rtf. The .rtf file can contain anything. Once this file is created and the procedure ('Get This Month's Numbers') is executed, you will see the form is protected, by you cannot tab on the section(s) below it. Thanks again ! ! !

I have followied your instructions; the .rtf file was inserted successfully. When I tab out of the last cell in the table in the protected section, the insertion point moves to just before the text "Sales Calls". I can start typing there, if I want, since this is in an unprotected section. Or I can tab again, and end up on the next line, which is unusual - pressing Tab should insert a tab character here.
I suspect that your document has become corrupt - when I save it as .rtf, then close it and try to open the .rtf file, Word crashes. If I save the document as .htm and reopen it, the strange tab behavior has disappeared.

    Hans,

The .rtf file is a 'Read/Only' document. That's why it fails when you try to save it. Any sugestions on how to tab through the 'Sales Call' table ?

You'd have to use code to jump from the last form field in the Referrals Made table to the Sales Calls table. Or put everything before the Sales Calls table in a protected section. But you still have to "repair" the corrupt document, otherwise it won't work.

    Hans,

Would you give me an example on how to jump from the last field in the 'Referrals Made' table to the first cell in the 'Sales Calls' table of the sample document that I posted ? I believe that once it's in the 'Sales Calls' table, it should respond correctly. Thanks ! ! !

Re: Tabbing In Table With A Protected Form (2003)

The problem turns out to be something else. There is a bug in all versions of Word: if a protected document contains a control from the Control Toolbox, tabbing won't work correctly. This problem even persists when you remove all controls from the document. See Tab key problem in a protected document containing a VB control.
So the command button at the top of the document is the culprit. Even if you can make the insertion point move to the Sales Calls table, it'll then jump back to the command button. There doesn't appear to be a solution for this problem... <img src=/S/sad.gif border=0 alt=sad width=15 height=15>

You might use a custom toolbar instead of a custom button in the document.
