You may have to turn off your anti-virus program temporarily while performing a system restore. Don't forget to turn it on again afterwards.

A thousand thanks again Hans, followed your advice and BINGO job done successfully at first attempt, though for the life of me I can't remember ever having to disable the AVG program before performing a SR in the past. By the way, I am amazed to find you still manning the monitor beyond midnight. seeing it's now past 1am I must get some shut eye though being an oldie there is no work duty when daylight comes..... thankfully. Re: System Restore (XP Proff SP2)

Anti-virus programs often protect system files against being overwritten, but that's precisely what a system restore does: overwrite system files with a version saved at an earlier date. So you have to turn off the anti-virus program while system restore does its work; you can turn it on again afterwards.

(I'm a night-owl, and besides, I've taken this week off work)

Thankfully for some of us you don't neglect the posts sent by frustrated guys like me who seem to constantly be coming up against hurdles. Like the one I've just encountered since
installing the software for the Iron Vinyl converter. Explained in another post..... Cheers Hans, I wish you and all the experts a very happy & prosperous new year. Regards Dave,
