Update Manager

I've just discovered a program named Install Shield's Update Manager. The site says that it's a desktop program that allows you to control the updates and messages you receive from software makers who use the Update Service.

I have downloaded Update Manager but I would like to know if any one else has used it and how they liked it? I'm also concerned if it works with most programs generally found on a Windows XP Home computer?

You may find more details of this utility in this post: <post#=674,562>post 674,562</post#> .

It may not be the same utility, but I am sure it works on the same principle.

Ooops... I just noticed that you have seen the thread with three replies at the end...

    Re: Update Manager

Just realized that Update Manager came installed on my machine when I bought it. In addition to the Install Shield Update Manager itself, it checks for updates for only TWO applications that I have installed. I can't see any way to add more applications to the list. Result ? - I've just uninstalled it.

    Re: Update Manager

Yes Rudi, I have indeed, seen Bob's posts re: File Checker and I have it on my hard drive. It doesn't perform the same functions as Update Manager. I want an application that I can check any time I want to find updates (if they're available). I'm not simply interested in Windows Updates, but every program I use and Update Manager seems to the better choice..

Thanks for responding, I appreciate your effort to assist me.

    Re: Update Manager

Under the topic "How does the Update Manager Work" it states: When an application you install uses the the Update Service, the Update Manager may also installed.

I'm beginning to think that the programs you can update must have been written to include automatic update allowance, so that would limit the programs that can be updated. Since only TWO of yours were eligible, perhaps none of mine would be. Shucks!! I thought my search was over. Oh Well, back to the drawing board.

    Thanks for sharing,

    Gloria
