    Help with chart (2007)

The attached file has a table for an employee satisfaction programme.

I need to have the results showing for Questions 1-15, the Rating feedback.

But, divided across the Department! Is that possible?!

    TIA - AS

    Hi Alan,

Unless my PC have a new years niggle, I noticed that your attachment is in xml format. I think that you will have a greater chance of help on your query if you zip a copy of the source xls(x) workbook. In this way users can open the actual workbook and attempted chart and try to assist you without having to attempt imports of the xml into Excel.

    Cheers
    Regards,
    Rudi

What kind of chart would you want? Perhaps you could create a mockup or sketch of what you'd expect the result to be.

    Re: Help with chart (2007)

    Tx Braddy,

Alan, I took the table and converted it into a Pivot Table, and then charted the pivot table result. How about this as a result.

BTW, if you use Office 2000, XP (2002) or 2003 you can install the free Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats. This will let you open and save Word 2007 documents, Excel 2007 workbooks and PowerPoint 2007 presentations in the older version.

    Hi Alan

I am (a) not quite sure what you want and ( not very good with charts. Is the attached however going toward the direction you want to achieve?

    Cheers

    Hi Rudi

Looks great to me, but I only converted the worksheet from 2007 xlsx to xls.

You have to wait for Alan Smith to reply.

    Re: Help with chart (2007)

    Hi Hans

You can do that without the compatability pack.

    Re: Help with chart (2007)

    Hi Hans,
I am aware of the Compatibility Pack but do not need it currently as I am working with Ofice 2007 on my PC. TX

    Braddy,
Alan's original attachment opened as a zip with various xml files sitting inside the zip. How did you go about getting the table? Which file did you open? I find this a little confusing???
    TX

    Re: Help with chart (2007)

Office 2007 files ARE zip files containing xml files. The extension (.docx, .xlsx, .pptx etc.) tells Windows which application to use to open such a file.

You should download the attachment from the first post in this thread to disk. Depending on your PCs settings, the downloaded file will either have extension .xlsx or .zip. If the latter, change the extension from .zip to .xlsx and you're good to go.

    Re: Help with chart (2007)

This is good information Hans, I was not aware of this?!

As you can see with the screen picture, the attachment from Alan is an xls attachment icon. After I downloaded it, it registers as a zip file. In the image you can see when I open the file that it shows multiple xml files. I was not able to open the workbook as each file simply opens in xml format in excel? I found this strange as I have not run into a problem like this before???

When I follow your advice to change the extention, it tells me in excel that the file format is not recognised? Any idea's???

    Re: Help with chart (2007)

    Hans, sorry...I understand now...

I changed the extention of the zip file (the actual zip file...not the content in the zip!! <img src=/S/stupidme.gif border=0 alt=stupidme width=30 height=30>). It worked now! Cheers TX (I feel better now, and learned something new!!)

See Introducing the Office (2007) Open XML File Formats for some background.

I don't have Office 2007, but I have installed the compatibility pack that I mentioned higher up in this thread, and I was able to open Alan's .xlsx file in Excel 2002 without problems (I get the dialog shown below).
