Bookmarks - delete all (Firefox 3)

    Good New Year to all!

Is there a way to delete MULTIPLE bookmarks? Doing a search doesn't reveal much, except to say if you use the add-on Bookmark Duplicate Detector, you cannot del them, only move them.

I tried deleting the bookmark file from my profile. That didn't work.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you. Acer

In Firefox 3, bookmarks are stored in a SQLITE database file. The bookmarks.html file either is from an earlier version of Firefox or was exported from the Bookmarks manager.

To delete multiple bookmarks, use Bookmarks>Organize Bookmarks... After you select a folder in the left pane, you can multi-select in the right pane, then right-click and choose Delete. Does that do what you need?

    Thank you for responding.

I know you can delete the folders' items, but I was sloppy and didn't put all bookmarks into folders so a lot of clicking is involved.

ALSO, when I re-installed Firefox 3, apparently the entire database file was duplicated: all folders and individual bookmarks are listed numerous times....

What wold happen if I were to completely delete the SQLITE files? ( Doing a Search for SQLITE, I have 9 files, dated 12/31/08 to today....)

(I had updated to Firefox 3 recently and I use PlainOldFavorites)

    Thanks again, Acer

You can delete the file. Please see this section of the support article for more information: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Bookma...s_database_file.

    Thanks again.

    However:
On the File menu dropdown list are items ranging from New window to Exit (14 items in all).
No FileFirefox/ ExitQuit/ FirefoxQuit. Those instructions apparently apply to Firefox 2, not 3….

Re: Bookmarks - delete all (Firefox 3)

The section of the article I referred you to only uses File>Exit...

Oh wait, there is another possibility. Many articles on the SuMo site (as it is called) allow OS and version customization. There's a gray box near the top of the article text (look for "Show content customized for") that lets you view and change your version and platform settings. Make sure you are viewing menu commands for Windows.

If you are using NoScript, you probably need to allow support.mozilla.com in order to get this feature to work correctly.

Thank you. I did not notice the choice to click on Firefox 3. Sorry about that.

Re: Bookmarks - delete all (Firefox 3)

    Hello, again.

From my reading of the info on that page, the Places database will be rebuilt. I'm looking for a way to edit the entries, to delete the individual entries.

    Thanks, Curious

(Edited by jscher2000 on 07-Jan-09 21:57. )
If you don't like using the Bookmark Organizer, you could search for an extension to manage your bookmarks. Due to the change in storage format for Firefox 3, these were slow to be upgraded, but there might be some out there by now.

Added: Here is an illustration of what I was describing earlier about multi-selecting and then using right-click > Delete.

    Morning, Jefferson -

Again my thanks for your diligence on my behalf.

I have been checking for extensions that address my problem. No luck - - yet. And, yes, I do understand about right clicking items.
