Where can Microsoft Photo Editor be downloaded fro (XP Prof SP2)

My friend Walt (who I understand has just signed up again with the lounge) does not seem to have Microsoft Photo Editor on his HD, I have looked on www.microsoft.com/downloads/search.aspx but can't see it anywhere, is it no longer available? I am aware that Picasa, Irfanview & other freebies are available but seeing I have got used to MPE I would be more at home pointing out a few of it's capabilities to my friend, then we might move on to Picasa or some other. That is unless someone on the lounge can recommend a better one. Regards SF.

It's part of Microsoft Office - at least up to Office XP (2002). Does your friend have Office installed?

Thanks as ever guys, I've just phoned Walt and he says he has XP Pro Office 2003 which I have just discovered from Wikepdia, marked the end of Photo Editor, it being replace with MO Picture Manager. Question answered, thanks. Am I right in assuming the latter incorporates all the features of it's predecessor plus others? Regards SF.

I suppose that's what Microsoft calls progress, just like Ford bringing out a new model of car but not fitting a heater or radio ! A search for Picture Manager unearthed various so called free downloads and some like <Cnetdownload.com> [offer a time limit demo for just $10 which is reasonable.] but as I don't possess a credit card, that's out. When I bought my computer 2nd hand it came with Windows 2000 installed and though I have the Windows 2003 version - because I was familiar with the former version & it did all I wanted to do - I was reluctant to update it. In my rather limited knowledge of how these things work, the thought however occurred to me that it might just be possible to extract Picture Manager from the disc and use it; or am I way off the beam with this notion? I am also aware that there are numerous other options like the two suggested but seeing Walt has the Picture Manager installed I would be interested in acquainting myself with it's features so we are on the same wavelength.

    Let's get the terminology straight.

Windows is your computer's operating system. Windows 2003 is a server operating system, it's not something installed by consumers. From your earlier posts, I gather that you have Windows XP.

Microsoft Office is something entirely different, it is a collection of applications such as Word, Excel and Outlook.

Microsoft Photo Editor was part of Microsoft Office up to and including Office XP, and Microsoft Office Picture Manager is part of Office 2003 and later. Neither of these programs come with Windows.
