    Mail merge and decimals (2003)

    <img src=/S/hello.gif border=0 alt=hello width=25 height=29> <img src=/S/help.gif border=0 alt=help width=23 height=15>

    I am trying to merge examination results from an excel workbook as a mail merge in Word 2003. The merge works well except that the merge field contains many decimal places whereas I require the nearest whole number. I have formatted the data in Excel every way I can think of but the decimal problem still persists. I have browsed for solutions and have attempted the use of switches to no avail. I presume I'm not applying the correct switches. Any help would be appreciated.

    Happy new year, Rob!

    Also see <post:=641,008>post 641,008</post:>.

    For whole numbers, you can use the switch
    <code>
    # "0"
    </code>
    or if you would like to include the thousands separator
    <code>
    # "#,##0"</code>

    Re: Mail merge and decimals (2003)

    Happy New Year to you all.

    I still cannot get it to work. I must be applying the switches incorrectly. After toggling field codes and inserting the switch, this is how it appears:

    {MERGEFIELD "AutoMergeField"/# "0" }

    What am I doing wrong?

    Many thanks

    Re: Mail merge and decimals (2003)

    You need to use a backslash, and I'd insert a space before it:
    <code>
    { MERGEFIELD "AutoMergeField" # "0" }</code>

    Hi Hans

    Still no joy. I've included a before and after screen shot. I must be doing something very silly!

    Have you updated the field (F9) or actually performed the mail merge?

    <img src=/S/bullseye.gif border=0 alt=bullseye width=45 height=15> . It's working. Thanks so much, Hans (and of course, Rudi.)

    Hans -

    As usual, you had the answer for a problem that has been causing me to tear my hair out. Thanks so much, not only from me, but also from my hairdresser and my husband. <img src=/S/hailpraise.gif border=0 alt=hailpraise width=27 height=22>
