Hotkeys and ribbons (2007)

I'm still using Office 2003, but we upgraded to Outlook 2007, so I am getting my first real dose of the famous (and infamous) ribbon.

I'm adapting to it pretty well, as I am mostly a hotkey user anyway. But I am running into a problem with my most favorite use of the menu, the Alt + I, F to insert a file. I cannot find a way to duplicate this without redefining a new shortcut key.

I'm not opposed to creating a new shortcut key, but I know that this will cause a huge shift when we upgrade everything to 2007. I fear that all my menu shortcuts from the old days within Word (Alt + I, P, F to insert a picture), Excel (Alt + D, D, D to import data), and Access (Alt + T, L, A, Y export a report to Excel) will be relegated to mouse usage, which will slow me down.

Is there a way to duplicate the old menu system for the keyboard users?

Have you looked at the keyboard shortcuts for Office 2007 - Searched All Office Online for "keyboard shortcuts" - Help and How-to - Microsoft Office Online? The keyboard shortcuts are probably still there but a different combination of keys.

NOTE: If you just depress and release the ALT key the corresponding letter for the Ribbon section will be displayed. That could help ease the transition.

The Microsoft Office Labs has a add-in which can help locate commands - Search Commands.

Many of the old keyboard shortcuts should still work in Office 2007.

To insert a file into an e-mail, you can use Alt+N, A, F according to Mail Keyboard Shortcuts (Outlook 2007).

Thank you. I was just coming here to report that I learned that holding down the Alt key does reveal hotkeys (although I'm disturbed that I did not receive e-mail notification of your replies--must check Spam folder). I'll just have to get used to Alt + N, A, F. I'll grab a hold of that resource.

As a result of the server move, e-mail is one of the issues that the Admins are dealing with right now. See <post:=751,839>post 751,839</post:> for more details.

Unfortunately, Alt+F combinations generally do not work, but the other (invisible) menus work fairly well.
