    Zone Alarm Pro

I'm having problems with my printer and the mfg. suggested that I check my Firewall program and see if the printers blocked. I have searched ZA and I can't find the information I need.

Please tell me where to find if my Lexmark X6570 All-In-One Inject printer's blocked.

    Gloria,
You can also temporarily disable ZA and see if your printer problems clear up or not.

    Don't forget to re-enable ZA.

"I'm having problems with my printer"

What problems in particular? "I'm having problems with my printer" doesn't give anybody much to work with. Is this just a recent problem, or have you always had problems. A bit (NO - at LOT) more details might be helpful.

<P ID="edit" class=small>(Edited by jscher2000 on 13-Jan-09 18:32. )</P>I believe Windows uses NetBIOS to talk to printers, and firewalls may block NetBIOS to the internet. Firewall programs like ZoneAlarm usually understand two different zones, your local network and the Internet. Communication rules are much more relaxed for your local network. Check to see whether your printer is consdered to be on your local network or on the internet.

Added: Of course, I am assuming that your printer is not directly connected to your computer. If it is, I think tech support was pulling your leg.

    Re: Zone Alarm Pro

My printer is directly connected to my computer.

I have discovered that if I close down ZA the printer prints, so it is ZA that's blocking it, I just need to know where to go to unblock it or I will have to remove ZA and forget about the money I paid for the pro version.

Because of what I discovered tech support hit the nail on the head.

Bob, you are so smart, that's exactly what I did and believe it or not, the printer started printing. The culprit is ZA and if I have to choose between printing and ZA I'll pick ;printing.

    Re: Zone Alarm Pro

The printer refuses to print. My Lexmark talks to me and a voice says "the printer is printing" but it doesn't (there is also a graph that shows printing progress and it doesn't move).

Please see my replies to jscher 2000 and Bob for more information on the status of the problem. I still have no answer for where to go to unblock printing.

    Re: Zone Alarm Pro

You should not have to turn off ZA completely, since it is a local printer. It sounds as though something specific in the printing subsystem is blocked by program control. Or perhaps the printer driver software makes a loopback connection to your PC. I suggest trying ZoneAlarm's support forum: http://forum.zonealarm.com/zonelabs/.

"Check to see whether your printer is considered to be on your local network or on the Internet."

I hope you were advising me to check in IE what zone Lexmark shows to be in. In IE it shows as being in the Internet zone. Is that significant?

No, when I wrote that I thought your printer was on a network print server. Since it is on your computer, that comment is irrelevant.

Can you explain what you mean by:
<hr>My printer is directly connected to my computer.<hr>
What sort of cable is this? Ethernet? USB? Something completely different?

    Re: Zone Alarm Pro

That's not solving it Gloria. That's eliminating the cause. A solution, to be sure, but the problem was not solved.

ZA was probably blocking your printer and all you would have to do is go into the Programs section of ZA and unblock it.
