Windows Update Gone Bad (Vista SP1 Ultimate)

If you are offered "IdeaCom Technology Inc. - Input - IdeaCom HID Touch Screen (PS/2)" by Windows Update, DO NOT INSTALL IT!

There are reports springing up all over the web about the trouble it causes. Mice attached to the PS/2 port become inoperable. There are conflicting reports about how to fix this, with many people reporting that the traditional remedies (System Restore, uninstall the update, etc.) do not seem to work.

Looks like this affects 32 and 64 bit versions of Vista and XP.
    Regards,
    PaulB

Re: Windows Update Gone Bad (Vista SP1 Ultimate)

Ed Bott's blog has some solutions for anyone affected by this Windows update. Microsoft has since cleaned up the problem with offering this errant update on their site.

    Cheers,
