Thanks for posting this, Bob. I just bought one of the affected drives last week. Where/how did you learn about this?

One of my sons has been following the problem for a while and advised both his brother and I earlier today about Seagate's solution. He wasn't sure if either of us used Seagate drives. We don't.

I have a couple of FreeAgent external drives, and it's quite difficult to determine the model number of the drive that resides inside the case. Perhaps it isn't necessary?
One thing about that page: the embedded document is hard to read in Firefox. One can enlarge the iframe and add a vertical scroll bar using this bookmarklet (paste into address bar above the page and press Enter to run the script):
<code>java script:idoc=document.getElementsByTagName("iframe" )[0];idoc.style.width="100%";idoc.style.height="400px" ;idoc.style.overflow="auto";void 0;</code>
Note: that is all one line.
Added: As far as I can tell, the FreeAgent family of drives does not require an update.

Did you enable scripting for kustkb.com? - it seems quite readable if you do! <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>
I just read it in the tiny window <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

I just recently installed Firefox 3.0.5 and can read the entire page without a problem. Which "embedded document" are you referencing?
WRT your Free Agent drive(s)... have you tried downloading the Seagate tool to see if that id's the FA Seagate drive model number?

It is a problem with the FireFox NoScript addon. If you use FireFox without this addon then you would not see the problem.

Thanks Stuart.
Running Firefox for the first time... no add-ons so far.
Thanks again...

A Habs/Als fanboy who lives in Leafs/Argos territory, and uses FF!!! There is intelligent life down there! <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

Born and raised in Montréal.
Left the province in 1979 as part of the financial industry sneaking out of Québec heading west along the 401 to greener pastures.
Was, and still am, a Habs/Als fan. When I have been in the GTA for as long as I lived in Montréal, which will be around the year 2018, I might consider switching allegiances. Nah, I lie... tain't no life pulling for the Leafs or Argos!!! <img src=/S/toilet.gif border=0 alt=toilet width=24 height=26> <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>
As for FF... just putting her to the test. So far, so good. <img src=/S/munch.gif border=0 alt=munch width=19 height=17>
