None deletable file (XP Prof. SP2)

Question..... Can anyone give me a clue as to why a blank Word doc that I keep on the desktop (for easy access when I need a new one) cannot be deleted. As the taskbar in the screen shot shows, there are NO files open yet the pop up message tells me it is open and being used by someone else therefore cannot be deleted. I have looked at the Windows Task Manager and it too shows nothing running. Puzzled...... SF

Perhaps you've had Word crash while the document was open. This could cause Windows to think the document is still in use.

Try the free utility UNLOCKER - it usually solves this problem.

    Download Unlocker. It's <img src=/S/free.gif border=0 alt=free width=30 height=15> and will solve your problem. There is no real answer as to "why". <img src=/S/shrug.gif border=0 alt=shrug width=39 height=15>

Thanks gents, I seem to remember that I did experience a warning recently which said the file was corrupted and may not open intact. I think the gremlins are active somewhere in the innards as I have another question to ask about the printer icon having gone missing from the sys tray all of a sudden. Thanks for the pointer to Unlockert will try it. Regards SF.
