Putting a space between bullet and text (2007/vista)

Word puts a tab between the bullet and the text, but I want a space between them. How do I change that? They let you do it on a multilevel numbered list, and I think I used to be able to do it with Word 2000, but how can I do it in 2007? Thanks.

Personally, I dislike the automatic way Word decides to handle bullets and numbers and turn off that "feature" in favor of my own keyboard short-cut (Alt+ that places a bullet when and where I want it...and I can then decide what I want to do re spaces. Use Insert | Symbol to set the bullet you want.

Does it really matter what is between the bullet and the text? You can adjust the space between the two by simply adjusting the indent markers on the ruler.

Select the list of bullets and drag the first line indent and hanging indent markers closer together to adjust the gap between.

Thank you. It's frightening how dense I can be sometimes.
