    Word (2000 SR1)

I know this is a Word bug and I know it has never been fixed by Microsoft. I'm hoping someone out there has figured out a work-around. You design a form with lots of text form fields, check boxes, etc. You lock the form and save it as a template. You share it with others. Problem: When completing the form, the user can't use spell check, etc. In order to use that feature, you must unlock the form. As you know, if you re-lock the form after entering any data, the date disappears - BAD NEWS. Is there any way to relock a form after data has been entered and not lose the data?

    Re: Word (2000 SR1)

I got some macros from the Knowledge Base that had to unprotect the form to run, and then reprotected it as part of the macro. (<A target="_blank" HREF=http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q187/9/85.ASP>http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/ar...s/Q187/9/85.ASP</A>)

I know that this article is not what you want to do, but maybe it would be helpful to post this on the VB forum to see if someone can give you a hand with the macro.

This is probably why *serious* (I say that with no malice or belittlement intended) developers use userforms and VBA to get the data from the user and populate the document using bookmarks, doc vars, autotext references, etc.

As far as I'm concerned. MS Form controls are useless. IMHO

Thanks for the reply. I'd like to be a "serious" developer but my employer thinks that sort of expertise is unnecessary (an example of the level of intelligence at work here).

    Thanks anyway.

Hummm. I see. Well, I wouldn't give up altogether. Bosses have a way of coming around. Mine still won't invest in training materials for me, so I set up here with all these smart people -- the trade off is TIME, which is costing more than training materials (an example of the level....)

Adding to Charles' pointer to the spell check macro on the MVPS site.

The code has previously been posted in the lounge, and improved upon, and the enhancements incorporated into the MVPS article. One of the values of the lounge.

You'll be glad to know that Word 2002 now has the option for resetting form fields upon re-protecting the document. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

Sorry - just go to the top of the Word board, and since I added my post to the abovementioned thread this afternoon, it should be near the top of the list (assuming you're showing it with most recent posts first.
