    Cannot lock cells??? (Excel2003)

I have a sheet, unprotected according to the menu (workbook & worksheet are both unprotected as menu shows 'protect' options).

I locked a couple of cells, now I lock the worksheet, only allowing locked and unlocked to be selected and then I try to edit a locked cell... it works (I mean I can edit it!). This is NOT what I would expect of course.
Now if I unlock and re-lock and only allow unlocked cells to be selected, indeed the cells I had locked before can no longer be selected (indicating that Excel sees them correctly as being locked).

If I try this on a new -empty- sheet, it does work as expected.

The problem sheet has VBA code (but nothing active on event base however); on startup I also protect from VBA (and I use "UserInterfcaeOnly"); the above is reproducible also however if I manually unprotect and/or set all parameters to false in VBA command mode and then repeat.

Seems as if there is another 'flag' somewhere that says 'unprotect' whatever I do... Any ideas? <img src=/S/confused3.gif border=0 alt=confused3 width=45 height=45>

Could you attach a sample workbook (without any data) that demonstrates the problem?

Is the box "Protect worksheet and contents of locked cells" checked?

    Yes, that box is checked.

I've been trying to 'reduce' my sheet to something small enough I can share (I also need to get our personal information), I get stuck all the time... at a certain moment in time the bl... thing starts behaving as it should be again... sorry. I'll try some more.

Maybe somewhere in your code you have that argument set to False?

If it's not your workbook, try right-clicking on the sheet tab and selecting View Code.
Check to see if any worksheet change event code etc is overiding your choices
