    MS-Defcon

I'm new here and was wondering when you know when an important install from Microsoft becomes ok to install? Back on Jan. 14th I held off on MS09-001 KB article 958687. Do I just keep looking for bulletins?

    Welcome to Woody's Lounge!

Woody usually gives the go-ahead to install last month's updates just before the new updates are released. See for example Time to get caught up - even with Windows XP Service Pack 3 about the December 2008 updates, and Eight Security Bulletins coming about the November 2008 updates. So you can wait until early next month.
Or you can go ahead and install this month's update - I always install updates immediately when they are released and haven't had a problem for years.

I also install the monthly updates within a day or two at home. At work I install on my PC within a day as a test. If there are no problems for a day or two, I then approve the updates to be installed on the other PCs at work.
