    CAB files (xp - current)

I am still searching for space on my C Drive. I have found a very large number of files with the "CAB" extension on my system. As I understand, CAB is another file compression approach for installing windows components.

Would I be safe in moving these "CAB" files to an external hard drive to free up disk space. If need be, I think I can preserve their "Path" info, in case they (the "CAB" files are in the future.

Some examples would be good. It is rather difficult to give reasonable answers with so little to work with. Are they mostly in one or two folders? If you have the folder C:|Msocache see Local Install Source (Msocache) and Download details: Office 2003 Tool: Local Installation Source Tool.

In all the locations you listed those cab files have to do with software installation and maintenance. I'd leave them alone. Check your System restore settings - Right Click My Computer. Select Properties | System restore | Settings (button). Consider move the My Documents folder - see My Documents Folder in WinXP for instructions.

I just read the thread on moving the i386 folder - that and getting rid of the wierd "UFO"s mentioned in that thread will help me immensely.
