add screensavers

I am setting up an old system for a local charity thrift store for ultimate sale. It is running Windows ME. When I installed ME I went with the "standard" settings and all of the screensavers did not get installed. How do you install the extra screensavers "after the fact"? I am specifically interested in the Aquarium screensaver. Thanks for your help.

Wow, I haven't had even a virtual machine WinME available for a long time. Let me see if my memory comes anywhere near close. In Control Panel's Add/ Remove Programs option, click the Windows Setup tab, then choose Accessories and Details. See if you can locate Screen Savers, then poke around to see if you can find what you're looking for. Sorry, I may be way off base on this one.

Do you have a machine around the "shop" with either Windows 98 or ME installed (the Aquarium was part of each I believe) ?? You could copy the .scr files from the System or System32 folder (I'm not sure which) to removable media and then copy them to your new Win ME installation.

And embarrassingly, I've been trying to find which .CAB file contains the screensavers on my Win ME CD from days of yore and I can't remember how to "search" in a bunch of .CAB files without opening them one at a time. Blush!!!

Disclaimer - I'm using XP Pro - your results may differ

You may also need to have themes installed to use the Underwater screensaver. I added the scr file to the correct location. When trying to preview or launch the Underwater screensaver, all I get is a blank screen. Other, non-themed scr files from Win98, such as "Windows 98" (the one with the bricks filling in the background), launched as they did "back in the day".

Hello all,
If I remember correctly, in windows ME, under Add/Remove programs in the Control Panel, you had the option of installing the 'themes' option from the installation CD.
The screensavers are part of the themes.. aquarium, sports, haunted house, etc..

I kinda liked ME.. or maybe it was just I got to know it's particular peculiarities
Of course I went from 3.1 to ME to Vista.. skipped 95 and XP

Strangely I used 3.11, 95 and XP, but not ME or Vista. I think my choices worked out better than yours.

To be honest, ME had it's moments, but I had more problems with the fact that I coudln't upgrade the memory or the HD on my laptop.
Vista so far is working out well...
