Searching: Specific posts by user?

    Hi,

I may need a quick lesson on searching

I would like to search all my posts for a specific search phrase like "formulas". I cannot recall doing a multi-conditioned search. I usually search by topic only or by my posts only, but this time I want to search my posts for a certain topic. Can this be done?

    TX
    Regards,
    Rudi

Re: Searching: Specific posts by user?

    Hi Bowlie,

No I did not see that thread. TX.

However, based on your and Hans's reply, it is obvious that my request cannot be done until the new lounge software is introduced. Though Jezza show how to search for all ones posts in a certain forum, I was after all my posts based on a certain topic.

I wait in anticipation for the new "searchware"

    Rudi

I admit that I was just scrolling through the posts and the thread I pointed you to was the one I read just before yours. Coincidence I guess but it allowed me to respond as if I actually knew what I was talking about. An opportunity like that should not be missed.

...all my posts based on a certain topic...

You've probably thought of this already, but I occasionally do something similar by searching for all my posts (see attached) and combining that with a search for a word or words on each screenful using Ctrl-F. Not elegant but sometimes helps to find something.

Re: Searching: Specific posts by user?

I did not think of that actually. Its a clever tweak

However, since you and I have made a fair amount of posts, it may be advisable to modify how many posts get displayed in the page so the search could go faster.

BTW: Is it OK to do this? I have heard that returning 100 or 200 (or more) results slows down the server. This could be a selfish act that affects everyones browsing experience. Is this true???

Re: Searching: Specific posts by user?

I'll have to let one of the Admins answer that from a technical view, since I don't have access to server data and performance. BUT, as in your example, I've done that as well and always figured that a careful and judicious use of such a "trick" wouldn't be so terrible. I suppose if MANY Loungers started searching for huge amounts of data, it would impact the server performance, but by how much I don't know.

Searches do use a lot of CPU capacity on the server, to increasing the number of search results may have adverse effects, especially if everyone does it!

Gee wizz, thats quite some macros. I'll give this a try when I get some chance later. Thanks for your efforts in the W/B and also to the refering link.
I would like to search all my posts for a specific search phrase...
I know this thread goes back before the "new Lounge" but I just wanted to add a comment about how FAST this software searches. It has taken me a little practice with it, but I'm learning how to find stuff.

Earlier today, I searched for the phrase "try turning off Simple File Sharing" and added "bigaldoc" as the optional member name. The search took about 3 or 4 seconds to find a post from 2002 where I had used that phrase. Not bad in my estimation.
