Irritable popup (Windows XP Sp3)

Got a new computer. Reinstalled everything. Now, when I start up, a menu in the START bar on extreme right, tells me, "You have files waiting to be written to the CD." I "X" it out and go on, but it is irritating. I've tried to figure out which program is causing it, but so far come up blank. Can anyone help?

Today we are having snow and ice in the sunny south!

    Try this:

    1. Open My Computer
    2. Right-click on the CD-ROM drive and click properties.
    3. Click the "Recording" tab.
    4. Uncheck the "Enable CD Recording on this drive" and close out of all the Windows.

Do you have Nero installed? If so, make sure you have the latest version and RE-INSTALL it. According to some readings on the web that may help.

    Rudi:

If I followed your instructions, would that not stop the CD/DVD drive from being used to record things, such as backups, etc.? If that was so, I guess I could turn it back on when I got ready to record something. I'll try it and see. Thanks for the suggestion.

Yes, I have the latest upgrade to Nero 9. I installed it from the last update. However, this irritation began about a couple of days after I installed Nero 9.

If you drag and drop a file to the CD drive then it stores it in the folder Cocuments and Settings<username>Local SettingsApplication DataMicrosoftCD Burning

You could delete all the files in that folder, or even easier you could

Remove all CDs / DVDs from the drive.

Open Windows Explorer (or My Computer) and navigate to the CD.

Delete all the files that you see[/list]StuartR

Hi. I cannot be sure. Sorry.

I also noticed from additional searches about this problem that a re-install of Nero could help solve it. These two options seem to be a general cause of this issue?

Hope you find a suitable solution.

You should re-install it. Nero is not one of my favorite pieces of software. I switched to AShampoo a long time ago. If you Google around, you'll see some of the comments that evidently Rudi and I both saw about Nero being the possible culprit.

    StuartR:

I deleted the files and that fixed the problem. No more irritation. Thanks.
