Autorun.inf Won't Start

I have a CD with a Power Point show on it that won't start on a friend's computer with the AUTORUN.INF file. The same CD auto-starts with no problem on my 95, 98, and my son's 2000 Windows. On the friend's machine "Auto insert notification" is checked, as well as "Disconnect" and "DMA." I have unchecked "Auto insert notification" and re-booted. Then checked it again and rebooted. But I can't get the CD to start automatically.

Any suggestions?

Unlikely the problem is on your end. I've noticed this feature just doesn't work with some CD-Rom players/drivers -- my Panasonic 5 disc changer, for instance.

Thanks. That's a bummer. Got this neat little show, inexperienced user, and have to teach her how to start it manually.

Put a shortcut called "Autorun CD" on the desktop. Then she will have a one button procedure.

Thanks, Ian. I wasn't really looking for a general solution. I had just never run into this before and wondered if there was some other Windows thing that I should be looking at. A shortcut is a good idea.

You have already looked at the correct Windows settings.

I think Art's comment about hardware incompatibility is probably the cause of your problem.

I had this on an old 486 recently.
The CD worked fine but no autorun.
It worked out that the MSCDEX dos driver was invoking from the autoexec.
Removed this from the autoexec and let 95 select and install the correct drivers
After that auto run worked a treat.
