'Can not shift object off sheet'? (Excel XP)

    Hi everyone,

A buddy here at work just tried to insert a column and got an error, "Can not shift object off sheet". I've never seen this error before. Can anyone tell us what is going on?

    TIA,

    Beej

I have seen this caused by comments, which can be quite hard to see. It can also be caused by a graphic object that is linked to a cell in the right hand column.

    Hi,

There is something typed into the last column of the worksheet. If you have any value (even a space) typed into the last column, it will prevent more columns being added. Select the last column and delete it, or press delete to get data out of it (unless it has to be there). This should solve the problem.
