    Printer Dialog Order (2007 SP1)

Is there a way in any Office application to control the order in which printers are listed in the printer dialog window?

Or ... if I use multiple printers ... is the easiest way to do this just to create a macro for each one and pin it to my ribbon?

As far as I know, printers are always listed in alphabetic order, and there's no way to change that.

Having buttons for printing to a specific printer is a good solution. Unless you know how to customize the ribbon, the Quick Access Toolbar is the place for them.

If you don't know how to do it Hans, no one does.

As to the buttons, I miswrote - I meant the Quck Access Toolbar.

You could change the printer names, so that the order you want IS the alphabetical order of printer names.

Sorry Stuart for not being clear - what about network printers that I can't rename, or PDF generators that new software likes to include these days?

For example: I have 8 printers in my office, and only one has a name I can change.

    Another good idea bites the dust. <img src=/S/sad.gif border=0 alt=sad width=15 height=15>

Not a lot you can do then.

This is the direction I was going - this will help a lot because my macros were still buggy.

I tried this suggestion, and it is excellent. The macro is clever and robust (at least more clever and robust than the one I wrote). The write-up on that web page could be a tad clearer: all I need is the first little macro, but it wasn't clear from what I read that it would solve my issue.
