OMG....I hope it goes before next weekend as I have a night time ultramarathon race. They said the only thing that will stop it is 2 foot of snow or a hurricane

As I look out of the window of the log cabin I saw a small flurry of snow, aeroplanes fell from the sky, cars skidded to a halt nearly missing each other and I heard a distant train grind to a halt......drama what drama? This is the south of England we don't get that softy American stuff here, this is real snow because it comes from Russia

Well, I've never been to your country(ies) so I don't know about the "...North of Britain..." but one thing for sure, 70 mph winds, especially in inclement weather, can be very dangerous. When I lived in Colorado, they called them ground blizzards. Hoping it's short lived and not too severe.

Hi Jezza

halt nearly missing each other

Over here the saying goes that "a miss is as good as a mile". But if you nearly miss hitting my car; your insurance company will be talking to mine.

"... snow could fall as deep as 20cm (7.8in) ..."

Oooooohhhh.

"... if the're after an OSCAR!"

True.

But we had some real bad storms in 2005 and 2007 as several other countries. 75 million cubic meters of wood, trees, fell during some hours a night in 2005 in the southern part, and that time they did warn. It had already hit GB and Denmark among other. In 2007 I was on the roads that day, and it took time...

Re: Brrr....(part 2)

I wouldn't mind some of that "real snow". So far this winter has been a bit "wimpy" in my parts of Sweden. True, I have a little snow, and some days were cold. Guess I'll have to move up north.

Temperatures now, some hour ago 16:00:
Warmest
Location Temp
Kiruna 1,7°C (yep, nuts sort of, it's in the north (Latitude 67.8,), but we often get it that way; it changes so it can be colder in the south).

Coldest
Location Temp
Särna -23,1°C (Latitude 61.7) This night Särna had -30.4°C, nothing unusual per se, there. I don't know what the January record is, wait a minute .... eh, ooops, -49,0°C in January 1951 and 1999, and -52,6°C in February 1966. Brrr indeed.

Oh don't start me on the Canadians

All I get from the Canadian side of the family is "Shovel the drive this and shovel the drive that" or "just 2 foot last night!

Just remember us Brits when you're out shovelling your drive next, we get 1 inch of snow.....just remember, Russian snow, which can cripple the whole fright/rail/car/transport infrastructure.....you have it sssooooo easy

Re: Brrr....(part 2)

I can personally attest to Chris' claim. We have had way too many storms out of Canada this winter. We are still digging out from our last storm that dropped over 8 inches! Snow fall totals for our little corner of the world are well over 50 inches!

Now Chris maybe you could see about shifting some of this white stuff to Jezza so that he might perform a proper analysis comparing his wimpy Russian made snow versus your much more impressive Canadian snow ? Just a thought.

While we are at it if there are any loungers from Hawaii or the south pacific maybe you could shift some of your excess sun towards us so that I can get the ice dams melted offf my roof

I wonder if the real reason that traffic has come to a standstill over there is more to do with this story

No More Street Sign Apostrophes in England's Second-Largest City.

I think they are all just getting lost.
