    XP Messenger Service

I'd like to be able to IM across my home LAN.

I have a mix of XP and Vista machines.

My understanding is that Messenger is not available in Vista, and it is a (minor) security risk in XP.

What are my alternatives? I found this freeware (http://www.fomine.com/net-send-gui.html).

The Messenger service is/was used mostly for administrators to send quick messages over an internal network. It presented a security problem and has been disabled by default since XP SP-2. I'd recommend using Messenger - Windows Live. There are quite a few other IM programs around.

Thanks - I didn't know there was a messenger component to Windows Live. I already have some of that, so this is a quick fix.
