Watch out for Monsieur Jacques Ass (5.5 sp2)

OE is susceptible to news postings including scripts. However, I NEVER encountered one until yesterday.

The poster, call him/her Jacques Ass, for wont of a better name, included a script that looped 10 billion times. Only way I could get out of OE was to CTRL ALT DEL and end the task.

I changed the security zone for OE to use the Restricted sites zone instead of the Internet zone.

Eliminates the current problem, but is that the right way to do it?

yes, your method is the right way - and it irritates me to no end that MS didn't update the OE settings whe nthe did Outlook's with a security patch months before the June 2000 patch that cripples Outlook.

I am also puzzled as to why this is the first time I've seen this problem.

I've used only OE to read news since July 1998 and I never encountered this problem before.

I expect such a message will now spawn copycats.
