    AVG 8-Free – update manager

    Perplexed:
I download update, :Maybe I have to reboot twice but I finally get "all security features are working correctly and are up to date. "

Next time I turn on PC, the icon again shows there's an error. I repeat the process and again the next day I see "you may not be protected. Some components report an error." The Update Manager icon says "Database update is disabled.". (I do manual updates)

I've searched the AVG for a and the web and this seems to be a pervasive problem with no solution (?). Any ideas other than switching to another AV?

    Thank you,
    Acer

Re: AVG 8-Free – update manager

I resolved the problem - hopefully permanently:

After trying to Remove AVG 8 Free via Control Panel's Add/Remove Programs, I got message:
    "Local machine: installation failed Installation:
Error: Action failed for file avgemc.exe: creating backup....
    Error 0x80070002 DESTINATION = "C:Program FilesAVGAVG8avgemc.exe.install_backup_1", %SOURCE% = "C:Program FilesAVGAVG8avgemc.exe"
    I tried uninstall again=another failure.

I then went online to find out what was going wrong, read on the AVG site about their removal tool. Ran the tool and had success in uninstalling AVG.

I then downloaded it, got the update and, so far, all is well.

Perhaps this will help someone else.
