    Crosstab dilemma (2003 SP3)

The attached database has a form with a layout that the client wishes. From this layout they want a report that will create a crosstab-like layout with thy "Type" files as rows and the "Purpose" fields as column headers. Since any of the fields can be chosen with any of the the others, they want the checkboxes. I thought I could make a crosstab to count these and have subsequently realized I can't count yes/No fields for Yes only. The report needs to be a grid as follows:

    <table border=1><td></td><td># of Flyers distributions</td><td>Newcomer Outreach</td><td>Community Outreach</td><tdRelationship Building[/td><td>Flyers</td><td>2</td><td>0</td><td>3</td><td>Program Presentation</td><td>0</td><td>0</td><td>1</td></tr><td>Office Tour</td><td>1</td><td>2</td><td>0</td></tr></table>
My sinking feeling is I need to redesign the table and form to allow for this kind of report. I suppose the alternative is to count using some custom functions in the report. Comments? <img src=/S/scratch.gif border=0 alt=scratch width=25 height=29>

To be able to produce such a crosstab, you'd need a different data design, with a separate table for the Type info and another table for the Purpose info.

I had more or less resigned myself to that conclusion. <img src=/S/bash.gif border=0 alt=bash width=35 height=39> Fortunately, it's not that complicated to redo the work. I just hate redoing forms...

    Thanks, Hans
