    Win 2K - Remote Access

I recently had to reinstall Win 2K from scratch (don't ask why; it's much too painful). The installation went OK, except I can't set up any dial-ups; the Internet Connection Wizard has buttons greyed out (Dial up to Private Network, Connect to Private Network, Connect Directly to another computer), and when I try to proceed, and when I try to create a connection through Outlook, the setup aborts. When I try to set up an account through Outlook, it tells me the Remote Access Connnection Manager is missing and gives a 1060 error message.

Any ideas? I'd rather not reinstall, for obvious reasons.

Have you checked to see if the install found the hardware needed to run these wizards?

If the modem and network card are not found then you can not run these apps.

V can not be run ustill a modem or network is set up.

And it might help if you told us, WHY you needed to do the reinstall. We are use to pain and you will be if hang around computers very long. <img src=/S/evilgrin.gif border=0 alt=evilgrin width=15 height=15>

Not being comfortable with the Registry Hack, I re-installed Windows "over the top", and it worked fine. I guess it didn't take the first time.

    Thanks for the help.

The hardware was there; another program recognized and used it. I took some other advice on the post and reinstalled Win2K over the top, and it works (at least so far!).

As far as why I needed to . . . it is a story filled with my hubris and incompetence. To make it short, I attempted to merge two partitions using Partition Magic, and it didn't work. I tried a number of fixes, but I finally had to resort to a clean install. The good news is that there's nothing that runs quite like a new system; the bad news is that I spent most of the weekend working on it.

    Thanks again.
