    System Restore (XP SP2)

I just got a pop up message on screen saying there was an essential update for Zone Alarm so accepted it but am pestered with a message saying it will expire in 15 days and will not delete from the taskbar so I thought (rightly or wrongly) that maybe performing a System Restore might rectify the anomaly. I tried two different bold dates but each time I got the following message saying it could not be done. Any clues as to what might be the cause and how to get a SR to work please? Would it be prudent to uninstall the existing ZA and download the latest version from the download page of the ComputerActive magazine. Thanks SF.

Wouldn't the version from ComputerActive be a free trial version valid only for a limited time?

If you still want to attempt the system restore: try turning off your anti-virus program temporarily before attempting the system restore. Don't forget to turn it back on afterwards.

Thanks Hans for your lightning answer and apologies may be in order as a bell seemed to ring in my shallow memory when I read your comment about turning off the AV prog before attempting the SR. Sorry if I have asked this before in the distant past. Regarding the ZA download from ComputerActive mag, it is listed along with many others like Spybot; Avast; AVG; Limewire; Winra; CCleaner etc. & there is no mention of a trial limit as far as I know. I must have downloaded ZA seven years ago and never had a problem with update reminders etc. This is the page where it listed. http://www.uksubscribe.com/linkout.asp?sit...=Computeract!ve Kind regards again SF.
Sorry, one needs to click on the <More Downloads Tab for the full list.

OK, ZoneAlarm Free 8.0.065 is for the free version, not a trial of the paid version.

You can try downloading and reinstalling it, but I don't know whether it will help.

    Re: System Restore (XP SP2)

Thanks Rebel... yes I am clueless in many ways but I did not imply Limewire was an AV, simply that it was in the list of free downloads. To add another dimension to the thread Hans- after a fair amount of searching and to-ing & fro-ing between links it appears that there are countless people around the globe who are experiencing varying degrees of trouble with the ZA update & many (some after long years of satisfaction with it) are turning their backs on it for an alternative like Comodo. Have you any experience with or knowledge of this program and what would be your advice regarding replacing ZA with it as comments I have just read are very favourable? Thanks SF

I'm sorry, I have no experience with either the ZoneAlarm or Comodo firewalls. If you'd like advice about that, you might post a question in our Computer Security and Backup forum.

Many thanks Hans..... tiredness induces me to switch off and get some shut eye but I will take your advice and submit a post in the said section. By the way, if you have no experience with the two progs what do you protect your system with? Cheers SF.

    Re: System Restore (XP SP2)

For years I only used the built-in Windows XP firewall. Currently I'm using the firewall that comes with Norton AntiVirus. Both are rather basic firewalls, but my PC has enough other protection so that I don't need a more advanced one.
