Lots more information needed to help you with this one...

Is the pointer sluggish on all windows or just when it is over the browser window?

Do other programs continue to run at normal speed when this happens?

What browser are you using?

What add-ins do you have loaded?

Did the problem start suddenly or gradually?

Did you make any changes or load any patches shortly before it started happening?[/list]StuartR

Sorry Bro,,but I was out of town working when it happened. This is what I can tell you.
The pointer does not move correctly when a page is loading on the internet. Once the page has loaded,,it works fine. Ya ever had a dream where ya was trying to run and couldnt,,thats the poor little pointer,,, when the big bad page is loading.
I have re-moved and re-installed my mouse and that didnt do anything. I havent tried a restore yet,,cause Im not sure what Im gonna loose or where to restore back to. Anyway,,thats about all I can tell you. It works fine unless Im on the Internet and a page is loading.

I don't know about the mouse itself but you might try un-installing and re-installing it, if there's software that goes with it. I'd also try opening Task Manager and sort by CPU. Then try to load a web page and see if you spot something hogging the CPU. It could be your AV program checking the web page or your firewall software. Looks to me like something is hogging the CPU but it may be hard to find.

Hey Dog !!! Welcome back. Been awhile, you old Pirate.

Have you defragged your Page File recently ?? Changed the way it's managed ???

In the performance section click Settings and select the Advanced tab on the Performance Options dialogue. Observe the Page file allotment size in the Virtual Memory Section.
Click 'Change' and note whether the option is set for system managed size or custom. If it is custom, you can increase the size allotment here. If it is system managed this may not be the problem, but I'd select Custom and manually increase the page file size and see if that fixed the problem...

I don't know if Doc's suggestion will help, or if you watched the Task Mgr while a page is loading to see what's happening, but here's another thought. This is a risky one so be careful. You might DISABLE your AV and firewall programs for just a few minutes and see if the annoyance stops. I'd be willing to roll the dice that it's one of 'em... But sure to turn 'em back ON PDQ.

    Re: Mouse Lagging (WInXP)

And to add to some more; since it happens during page loading, or more precise, using the browser, perhaps should look at what, if any, add-ons are running (Flash Player etc.) and if any difference starting at other pages. All as Stuart mentioned. We are in "Windows XP", but that doesn't necessarily mean the default IE6. As we all know anything can happen with the response time from "input devices" such as the keyboard or a mouse, when something else is hogging the PC, and nothing is wrong with the device.

    Re: Mouse Lagging (WInXP)

OK guys,,I found the problem. It was Avant Browser. I downloaded the latest,,and it's fixed. I watched the CPU as you suggested a couple times,, and seen that Avant was sucking up processes but I thought that was probably normal,, because I was using Avant. But when I used IE,,no problems. So,,I should of known that the spikes dont lie.
Anyway,,,,you guys have come thru again. Thank You
    I shall return
