Site Username

Hope this is the right place for this question.
I just found out a few days ago that some one else on the internet is using my user name (pauliez) and it has caused me a bit of grief.
I checked my profile on this site and could not see how I could change my sign in or user name.
Is there a way to do this here?

Re: Site Username

A User can NOT change their user name, here in "The Lounge".

I would NOT worry myself about, what is the harm?

"Results 1 - 10 of about 3,230 for pauliez" many flavors including both male and female

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

(Edited by JohnBF on 09-Feb-09 10:41. )
[EDIT] I misread your question to mean that someone on the Lounge was posting using your username. Usernames cannot be duplicated in the Lounge. If there's someone using your Lounge Username in other forums and areas on the internet the only thing you can do is change your Lounge username, which you cannot do yourself.

I'll let my earlier reply stand.

The direct answer to your question is you can change your password and other details by clicking Controls and then the "edit your Personal information" icon , but (thanks, DaveA) you cannot change your username.

If access to your Lounge user name has been compromised, Administration may be able to help you identify the abuser, and of course you will have to prove you are you.

Re: Site Username

No, there has been no abuse at all of my username on this lounge, but a lot of the e-mails that I have received lately allowed me to see that some one elsewhere was using and is still using it.
Most of the e mails have been declared as junk which will take time before they are permanently junked.
But until then it can be a bit of a chore assuming the mail is not for me.
Thanks any way.

Nothing will prevent someone from using your user name somewhere else on the Internet. There is no patent on user names.
If someone is using your email address ( with your user name ) then you have been Hijacked.
POSSIBLY your ISP can help you, possibly not.

You may find the you are the only one getting these emails from "pauliez" and there is not much one can do about it. They seem to disappear after a day or so, just do NOT reply or click that remove from list link.

Re: Site Username

Thanks guys.
Just going from site to site that I use that user name trying to put a big space between me and who ever.
But as DaveA said 3,200.
Thats a lot more than I found when I did a Google.
But, boy you ought to see where a lot of the e-mails are coming from.
Some even made me blush.

Re: Site Username

There are a number of spammers that spoof your email address to make it look like the email came from you. I get an average of 50 of those per day. I think that most of them come from Russia and China. I don't think that there is much that you can do about it except to never open an email that says it came from you and that you know that you did not send.

Russia and China?
Never assumed that those could be the source.
Always thought of the Balkans and or mid east.
One thing that is in my favor, and that is out of all of the e-mails that I accidently opened, I was fortunate not to bring into my PC any unwanted ailments.
I have a fairly good firewall and Antivirus software.
Also since all this started I have been scanning my PC weekly with Spybot, Spyblaster etc. and hopefully keeping the big bad wolf at bay.
I always thought "pauliez" was unique.
Never saw it any where before I started using it.
It is actually my real name. Paul which most call me Paulie and the first letter of my last name Z.
In fact it is on my van plate ID too.
Well I guess there is a first time for everything, and it is becoming a learning experience.

Re: Site Username

I don't know if I've ever said this to you in another thread, but I use Mailwasher pro spam blocker | Firetrust Ltd as my email front end. (I don't let Thunderbird automatically check email.) In the MailWasher preview window you can often see a .CN in a link and like Legare, I get gobs of them every day. As soon as I see that an email has my own email in the from column, I delete it with MW and it never even gets downloaded from the server.

Thank You Big Al For your reply.
I tried a version of mail washer a while back and did not need it after I found Avir Antivirus.
It scans all of my mail and web surfing and if I should go to one of those naughty sites that have a nasty surprise for unsuspecting folk like me it tell my PC to give me a loud squeal and allows me to rid the boo boo.
Have been using Avir for almost two years and have not had any viruses, trojans etc since.
I see these e-mails in my junk folder and it took a while to realize that some one was using my use rname.
So far (Thank God) no one has gotten my secret pin number.

Also I see your ribbons and can not figure out the ones under the GC and ND.
Can you tell me what the three are?
Maybe I am not seeing all of their colors correctly.
Nam???? Was there 101st BOTG 61, 63, 65, 67.
