    HP w2007 Monitor Sound

I have a HPw2007 monitor and since I have owned it I have never hooked up the speakers.

I have been using ear phones all this time and decided today to hook up the speaker system to my pc.

All I get now is a low volume no matter how high my volume control is on my PC and on the monitor.

Is there some thing wrong with this monitor or does it need drivers etc.

It is out of warranty and I could not get any help from HP.

It is hooked up to a FIC AD11 MB and I am using XP.

    Please reply.

If you don't find a solution in Stuart's link, one last thing to look at is to double-click the volume icon in the tray to get to the sound console (I hope). You'll notice that the leftmost one in my shot is way down low which is where I have it with the basic volume control. But sometimes when I watch streaming video or play a DVD on the computer, I had to turn UP those other controls to hear decent sound. Mess around a little and see what you get.

    One more thing to check.

Loudspeakers require different input to headphones. If you have plugged the speakers into the headphone socket then check if you have any different connectors on your sound card / motherboard.

Thank you Stuart for your reply
Yes that link was one of the many I have visited trying to get the speakers on my monitor to give me louder volume.
I tried every thing mentioned at that link, and even downloaded a software called AC97 assuming it would help.
But all it did was take up a lot of space on my HD and give me different ways of hearing any sound.
Did not help with the volume.
That link lead me to the HP forum and there I posted the same message I posted here trying to get some help.
So far many have viewed my post on that link bout "zero" replies.

    Re: HP w2007 Monitor Sound

Went to the back of my PC and found only three jacks.
First jack has a speaker symbol.
Second jack has a arrow making a 180 degree turn, (half circle0
Third jack has a microphone symbol.
Also I found something in the FIC AD11 manual that might have some bearing on the audio.

    What does "Powered Speakers" mean?

Edited by HansV to reduce picture in size - please don't post pictures larger than 640 x 480 pixels.

Thanks Big Al for your reply.
This is what I have in my PC volume control window.
I tried showing the volume control for the HP monitor but Print Screen for some reason does not capture it.
    Tried three times, no picture.
I will try Stuarts idea of using the output jacks on my MB.
If That does not work then I guess I got stuck with a monitor that has a great screen picture but a bad sound system.
Will get back with the results of trying the different out put jacks.

The text in your installation procedures says that Line Out can be connected to "headphones or preferably powered speakers". This implies that the output is not sufficient to drive ordinary passive speakers.

I don't know the HP w2007, but I wonder if it has "powered speakers" or just ordinary speakers which won't be sensitive enough for the output level of your card.

Thank you Stuart for your reply.

I was thinking the same thing when I saw that statement.

This FIC AD11 MB is almost eight years old and when it was new it had a Creative Live drive audio system as an option as one of its components.

I still have the set up hardware but removed it when I installed the XP.

The Creative system I have was designed for 98 and ME.

I still have the 98SE on another drive and after seeing that statement I’m thinking of re-installing the Creative system software and hardware to see what happens when I plug in the monitor to it.

My power supply is a Cooler Master 550W so there should be plenty of power to handle the extra hardware.

Give me a few days to complete this.

Have my 3 year-old granddaughter visiting for the next three weeks so much of my time will be taken up by her charming nature.
