Disable commands in Office 2007 via VBA (2000 - 2007)

Is XML the only way to disable a command, group, etc. in Excel 2007 via VBA? I have an Excel workbook that needs to work in Office 2000 - 2007 and when in 2007 disable some ribbon commands but of course don't run the 2007 code if in 2000 - 2003.

As far as I know, that is the only way indeed.
