    USB TV Capture for laptop

    Hi,
I'm looking for a usb capture device for my laptop to capture from my TV. There a many brands on mthe market all with varying reviews. Has anyone used one of these devices and if so what are the pro's and cons.

    Thanks,

Re: USB TV Capture for laptop

    Hi Leesha,

I've tried a couple of different digital TV USB receivers on my laptop (Compaq Presario), running Vista. The receiver I currently use is a TwinHan 7047 device and before that I tried a FusionHDTV device.

From my experience the issue you're most likely to have problems with is the device crashing. I've sometimes both the devices I've used locking the system up to the point that I had disconnect the power supply and to remove the battery to kill the system, then re-insert and restart. I suspect the problem is that some of these devices draw more power than the laptop USB port can consistently provide - even when connected to mains power. I suspect even my TwinHan device is marginal in that respect - maybe the current model is better.

FWIW, I preferred the FusionHDTV software.
    Cheers,
