Popup Menu in QAT? (Word 2007)

I've searched with due dilligence, yet just to be really sure:

There is no way to create popup menus that will appear on the QAT, right?

There's a cludgy sort of way to do this, but I don't think it's what you have in mind.

I had a custom menu in Word 2003 in a global template. I use the template in 2007, which supports the legacy menu on the Add-Ins tab.

I was able to add the menu to the QAT by customizing. Click the drop-down tab where it says Popular Commands, choose Add-ins Tab, choose Menu Commands. Then any legacy menus will appear on the QAT.

Clearly this is NOT a long-term solution, but it does work...

    Thanks Kim -

I had done exactly what you describe, so my global template is available both under the Add-in tab and as a popup button on the QAT.

It's because it's such a cludge that I was hoping for a better way...

I just can't reconcile the self-congratulatory tone in the ribbon developers' blogs (available somewhere on an MS site) with the amount of functionality they have taken away. <img src=/S/brickwall.gif border=0 alt=brickwall width=25 height=15>

Very true. It was so easy to customize the pre-2007 interface to work for you, your office, your company, each department, etc., etc.

It isn't any longer. It's a major pain to edit the ribbon, but it can be done. It's 'way, 'way too complex a process just to make the interface more useful, and it's taken customization out of the hands of most users (who know what tools they need available) and into the hands of developers (and masochists).
