Working with connectors - Flow chart (Office XP)

    Hi gang,
I am working on a flow chart and it seems that my "connectors" are not working. I don't see the square connecting handles on my shapes and can't "connect" lines to them. Anything I need to do to enable connectors.
    Tks

Word 2002's flow chart and connector shapes are rather primitive. You can't really connect them.
When you select a shape, you should see one or more green handles.

    Hi Hans,
I am not working with the Flowchart function. I am just trying to connect shapes together. If I go to help under connectors it says I am supposed to see blue square and click on them with the connector lines. Can't see them. I only have plain shapes with the round handles.
Just wondering if I am missing something here.
    tks.

I was wrong - you can connect shapes in Word, but you need to have "Automatically create drawing canvas when inserting AutoShapes" turned on in the General tab of Tools | Options...

I always clear this check box because in general, I don't like the drawing canvas. But it turns out that the drawing canvas adds functionality to autoshapes, such as the ability to connect them.

When you place a flowchart shape on the canvas, then select a connector and move the mouse over the flowchart shape, you should see blue handles on the shape; you can use these to latch the connector to the shape.

    Thanks it's working just fine.
But... anyway of making this work after the shapes have been created without the drawing canvas.

    1) Turn on autocreating the drawing canvas.
    2) Create any shape to create a drawing canvas (you can discard this shape).
    3) Select one or more of your flowchart shapes.
    4) Cut them to the clipboard (Ctrl+X).
    5) Click on the drawing canvas.
    6) Paste your shape(s).
    7) Create a new connector - it will work with the pasted flowchart shapes too.
