    internet connection (VISTA)

I bought a new laptop in Aug with VISTA as the only option, but have not parted with my 12 year old Sony Windows 98) . All was fine until last week when I could not connect to the internet via dial up or wireless. My son has checked it out and apparently Microsoft has no answer for this problem. Anyone have any suggestions besides sending Bill Gates to the moon for his own private VISTA. Should I return to the store, get a guru, try to delete VISTA and install a different system, delete just the internet and install a new system? I am retired and use the internet to communicate with family and friends so this has been a major blow.

Since I don't know what you mean by that statement, i.e. did your son call Microsoft, is the problem hardware or software related, is the machine under warranty, etc.? Lots of missing information here, but if the machine is still under warranty, the store of purchase would be the first place I'd go, not a "guru" who's immediately going to charge you for his services.

Deleting Vista, install a new system, delete the Internet and install a new system, etc., all are rather radical steps to take just because you can't connect to the Internet.

First of all, what is your son's level of expertise in troubleshooting computer problems?

Second, have you contacted your ISP? ( internet service provider ) Most times they can help you to review and check your connection options and also test your dial up line itself.

Have you tried putting your old Sony unit back on line temporarily, to see if it can still connect?

As Al said, the more detailed information you can supply, the more we have to work with, to correct your problem.
