    Office 2007 File Compatibility (2007)

The XML files in Office 2007 are not compatible with older versions of Office but if you stick with the non-X versions of files (.doc, .xls, .vsd etc) are there any other compatibility problems?

    Thanks,

In general, such documents should open without problems in Office 2003. In Office XP (aka 2002) and earlier, some features may not display correctly.

By the way, users of Office 2000, XP or 2003 can install the free Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats. This will let them read and write the new XML file formats for Word 2007, Excel 2007 and PowerPoint 2007 (but not the new .accdb format for Access 2007).

    Hans -

Thanks for the info. I've got Visio 2003 and I like it just fine. I could have the IT guys install 2007 but I haven't made peace yet with the ribbon so I'd rather not if I don't have to. Some other people here with Visio 2000 have crashed trying to edit 2003 files so they need to update and they will get 2007. No one here is using XML files yet. If I can get by with 2003 I'm happy.

    Thanks,
    Thanks,
